The MWC expo is set to take place from Monday, February 27, 2023, to Thursday, March 2, 2023, so the Galaxy S23 series should be available the Friday before, on February 24, 2023. If Samsung sticks to its original Galaxy S23 announcement schedule, the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra event and preorders will begin on February 8, 2024.

In other words, here are the Galaxy S23 specifications to look out for when winter arrives in the Northern Hemisphere:

Keeping the rest of the hardware the same should mean that the Galaxy S23 and S23+ will be able to launch at lower prices as well, as a grand for an LTPS display and only a processor upgrade may turn off many people from the S23+ in favor of the S23 Ultra.

Galaxy S23 camera

After being shot down previously, the biggest hardware upgrade expected with the Galaxy S23 series is expected to be a new 200MP main camera sensor. Samsung’s recent announcement of the ISOCELL HP3 200MP camera sensor may have added fuel to the rumor mill, but in reality, Samsung may use a custom ISOCELL HP2 sensor with a 0.60 micron pixel size that has yet to be announced.

The mysterious 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP2 sensor for the Galaxy S23 Ultra is 1/1.3-inch in size, with 0.6m pixels and a large f/1.7 aperture for high light. The S22 Ultra’s 108MP sensor is 1/1.33-inch in size with 0.8m pixels and f/1.8 aperture. This is right between the ISOCELL HP1’s 0.64 microns and the HP3’s 0.56 microns, indicating that it is a newer sensor.

It won’t be the first time that Samsung sells an ultra-high-resolution sensor to other phone makers to brag about, as it did with its previous 108MP and 200MP products, but keeps its customised version for themselves and the Galaxy S Ultra line for the last few generations.

The S22 Ultra’s 108MP sensor is no slouch, even if it is getting a little long in the tooth after Samsung has used such sensors for three years in a row. The S23 and S23+, on the other hand, could very well inherit the Ultra’s new 108MP sensor for the added wow factor in the eyes of eager buyers.

The main camera upgrade is not expected to carry over to the zoom cameras, which will still be 10MP with 10x periscope magnification and another 10MP sensor under the 3x telephoto camera lens.

The S22 Ultra has been rumored to start with 256GB this time, but that may not be the case with its successor, which will have a much-improved camera sensor capable of capturing large single RAW photo files and stunning video footage recorded from 8K. But here are the first renders of the Galaxy S23 series. And, as unassuming as the upcoming trio appears on the surface, it reflects design maturity. The phones have no extraneous bits and pieces around the rear-facing cameras, and it doesn’t feel like Samsung’s flagships are going through an identity crisis for the first time in years. All three Galaxy S23 variants appear to use the same straightforward yet effective design language. The back panel is clear of clutter, and each sensor has its own small cutout to allow light to pass through.

The Galaxy S23 series as a whole may resemble the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but that’s a plus in my book. The S22 Ultra is not only one of Samsung’s best-looking phones to date, but I believe there is value in maintaining a consistent design vision and refining it over multiple generations rather than releasing something new every year.

It shows that the manufacturer – in this case, Samsung – is confident in its long-term vision and is willing to push it forward. One of Samsung’s problems, in our opinion, has always been a lack of long-term design vision and consistency. Fortunately, the Galaxy S23 series appears to be heralding a positive shift in the company’s philosophy.

Because it is built on TSMC’s second-generation 4nm processor node, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 can achieve peak clock speeds comparable to Apple’s A-series chipsets. It achieves 3.36 GHz and, as a result, very high benchmark scores.

The PassionateGeekz leakster account obtained the leaked codenames for Samsung’s next non-bendable flagship from an early firmware build (via Pricebaba). The name Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra appears for the first time here, as evidenced by the respective firmware code strings below:
