Apple M2 MacBook Pro 13 review: Is this the last hurrah for the old look?
New Apple devices usually cause a stir, both before they are unveiled and after they hit the market.
The new MacBook Pro M2, the latest entry in Apple’s top-of-the-line laptop range, will launch later this week and orders have already been placed.
There was some discussion about the processor, battery performance and the design of the device.
We checked the laptop and found the following.
What’s new outside?
Nothing has changed on that front or back or side or anywhere else. Apple went with a design introduced in 2016 while keeping the same space gray and silver color options.
It still comes with two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the left and a 3.5mm audio port on the right. Dimensions and weight also remain the same, although the M2 chip is larger than its predecessor, the M1.The 13-inch screen is also sticking to the Retina display and hasn’t been upgraded to Liquid Retina.
Considering that at least some cosmetic changes were expected to complement the internal updates, including slimmer bezels and more ports, the device falls short in the design realm.
However, The new MacBook Pro M2 has a reputation for going for a minimalist look, and despite the changes, this logo remains something of a badge.

A surprising addition is the Touch Bar, the digital strip at the top of the keyboard that replaces the F keys. Sure, it’s versatile, it’s good-looking, and Apple had to do a redesign when it launched in 2016.
But it didn’t quite serve its purpose, it was rendered redundant by what was displayed on the screen, forcing users to look down. to make sure they’re typing in the right area (compared to the physical F-keys they’ve become accustomed to).
Apple has obviously taken note of the comments, as evidenced by its dropping the Touch Bar on the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros it released last year. Its inclusion in the new MacBook Pro will surely make users wonder what has changed.

Apple M1 and M2 chips comparison/milaohaath
You’ve probably heard all the good stuff: Compared to the M1, the M2 has an octa-core CPU that’s 18 percent faster (the M1 has a similar octa-core setup), 10-core graphics that 35 percent faster processing unit (eight cores in the M1), up to 24 gigabytes of memory (previously 16 GB), 20 billion transistors (previously 16 billion), the same neural engine with 16 cores, but now with 15.8 trillion operations per second (11 trillion on M1) and have 50 percent more memory bandwidth to compare this to the base M1 and not the other high-end options in their stable. We’ll get to that later.
Those are nice increases over the previous generation, but remember you need to compare this to the base M1 and not the other high-end options in your stable. We’ll get to that later.
These new specifications ensure a truly smooth computing experience, and the laptop doesn’t heat up to alarming levels. It’s still running on macOS Monterey, so we’re excited to see what Ventura has to offer when it launches later this year.

How long does it last?
The new The new MacBook Pro M2 keeps up with its predecessor with up to 20 hours of battery life. Here, too, several factors must come together in order to achieve this mark.
In our standard one-hour YouTube test at full brightness, the laptop lost just 7 percent of its battery life, which is impressive. For comparison, the M1 MacBook Air released in 2020 scored 10 percent. A 3 percent difference might not mean much, but you have to look at the ratio to estimate that number.
As for everyday use, we found that we could squeeze about 14 hours out of the device after cycling work and entertainment at half brightness.
A separate work-only test also showed that at the end of a 9.5 hour shift, more than a third of the juice was still in the tank. It just had to be plugged in the next day around noon.
All of those battery numbers are pretty impressive, although you most likely won’t get anywhere near the advertised 20 hours.

Apple M2 chipset details/milaohaath
Are comparisons to the higher-end M1 chips fair?
Frankly, that’s a tough question. However, you should keep in mind that the M1 Pro Max, and Ultra chips are designed for Apple’s top-of-the-line products (the Ultra is basically two simple M1 chips glued together), which is why they’re used in the larger MacBooks Pros and Macs are used Studio.
In simpler terms, premium specifications are reserved for premium products. Apple also introduced the high-end M1 chips relatively close to the release of the M2, so could have tested the market.
It is very likely that the M2 will have its own , Pro Max and Ultra versions in the future. Like the Base M1, the Base M2 is the standard chip in the entry-level device.
Early benchmark tests also show that the M2 is no weakling: GFXBench says the M2 outperforms the M1 by up to 45 percent, much better than Apple’s advertised 35 percent, and a Geekbench 5 test even showed that that it is better than the Dh23. 000 ($6,262) Mac Pro.

The verdict
The The new MacBook Pro M2 with the new M2 chip is a sight to behold, as long as you keep all of that in mind. As with the M1, the M2 chip proved to be outstanding from the start.
Still, we wonder if Apple’s decision to stick with this design indicates a definitive look for the Touch Bar and a sign that an updated version awaits us next time. This is difficult to answer as not all leaks in the past have been correct. But we hope so, because the design now feels dated.
As a bonus, you should also consider that The new MacBook Pro M2 starts at Dh5,499, which is Dh3,000 less than the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro. So it’s still good value for money.
