Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC 2022

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC 2022

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC have some leaked information on behalf on some good websites. In November, Qualcomm will host the Snapdragon Summit. The Summit will be held on November 15 in Hawaii. New chipsets are expected to be introduced. These include the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship SoC and the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 chipset for slightly lower-end devices.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 has only been used in a few phones so far, falling far short of the popularity of the 700-series chips that came before it. Qualcomm is developing a new 7-series chip, the SM7475, though its place in the Snapdragon family is unclear.

This could be the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 or the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1. The CPU will be tri-cluster in design, with one Prime, three Gold, and four Silver cores. Roland Quandt, a leakster, reports on the peak core frequencies for those clusters.

The main core runs at around 2.4GHz, the gold cores at around the same frequency, and the silver cores at 1.8GHz. That sounds almost the same as 7 Gen 1 frequencies: 2.4GHz Prime, 2.36 GHz, & 1,8 GHz Platt.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any details about the actual hardware yet. If it’s a Gen 2 chipset. It should use the new core layouts. Its mean Cortex-A715 for Prime and Gold cores and the improved A510 for Silver cores. The 7th Gen 1 uses the older Cortex-A710 for Prime and Gold and A510 for Silver.

Assuming these are the new cores, we can expect only a minor boost in performance but a significant improvement in efficiency – the A715 is 5% faster and 20% more efficient than the A710. Even the A510 core received a minor redesign, not enough to warrant a new model number, but it is now 5% more efficient.

This year’s Snapdragon Summit will take place in just over a month and will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The 7-series chip will most likely be unveiled at a separate event, but we should know what Qualcomm has in store for us soon.

Leak uncovers subtleties of Qualcomm’s next Snapdragon 7 series SoC

Leaked Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC Specifications and Features

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 leak comes from well-known tipper Roland Quandt, who revealed what the chipset is expected to offer.

The chipset is codenamed Qualcomm Snapdragon SM7475, and it is suggested that it is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 or the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1, depending on how big of a leap Qualcomm claims.

The Snapdragon SM7475, also known as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, is expected to have a triple cluster design that includes a prime core, three gold cores, and four silver cores. The prime core could run at 2.4 GHz, while the gold cores could run at 2.36 GHz. Silver cores with low power consumption could be clocked at 1.8 GHz.

The frequencies, on the other hand, are comparable to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The improvement could be made to the core architecture itself. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 is expected to have ARM Cortex A715 cores for the prime and gold cores, with Cortex A510 cores for the silver cores.

Quandt claims a 5-10% performance improvement over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 while being slightly more efficient. However, chipsets are rarely about raw clock speeds anymore. Qualcomm will have more use cases for faster and more power-efficient cores, which could include faster AI performance, support for powerful hardware in smartphones, and other applications.

According to Qualcomm, the Gen 2 compute platforms deliver up to 10% higher system performance than competing platforms, with up to 19+ hours of continuous use on a single charge, which is up to 2x the battery life of typical entry-level laptops when compared to Intel-based laptops.

Conclusion

If there are new cores, it will be a huge improvement in terms of efficiency despite a small performance hit because the A715 is 5% faster than the A710 while its efficiency is 20%.

The Snapdragon Summit 2022 will be held in November of that year, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will also be introduced to the public, while the 7 series chip will be introduced at a new location.
