China will gain from the nearby Gwadar port as part of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor (CPEC). Kashgar is 4500kilometerss away, while Gwadar is 2800 kilometers away from Shangai’s port. Gwadar’s new master plan will make the port a game-changer not only for Pakistan but for the entire region, allowing landlocked Central Asian governments to access Gwadar’s warm waters. By September 2023, the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA), a $ 246 million greenfield airport being developed on 4,300 acres, will be operational. The East Bay Expressway, which connects Gwadar Port to the CPEC road network that leads to Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and China, has completed 94 percent of its construction cost.

1. Development of Port and Free Zone
Gwadar port free zone has a total area of 2,281 acres. The goal of this initiative is to develop a standby port sector for Gwadar Port. The area has been designated as a Gwadar-free zone. This industrial zone will require infrastructure such as access roads, internal roads, water, gas, power, customs facilities, fencing, security, some warehouses, office and other related infrastructure, and so on.
Much remarkable progress was being made in this project. Tax exemptions for ports and free zones were announced in the Finance Act of 2020. Phase 1 of the Gwadar Port and Gwadar Free Zone, covers 60 acres of land and is completely operational. Afghan transit cargo began being processed through Gwadar port on January 14, 2020, and the port has now handled over 100,000 metric tonnes of Afghan cargo. The Gwadar Port and Free Zone are expected to generate $10 billion in yearly economic activity and 12,000 employees over the next three years. In the Free Zone, 46 businesses have applied for investment. 3 businesses have begun manufacturing. On the 7th of April 2021, M/s HKSUN received the first imports and exports cargo in the Gwadar free zone. Former PM Imran Khan started ground on the second phase of the Gwadar Free Zone in July 2021, which is 35 times larger than the first phase and spans 2200 acres.

2. Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan
The goals of this project were to develop Gwadar City’s vision and strategic objectives. Updating the existing Gwadar City Master Plan and integrating it with the Gwadar Port Master Plan. The progress of an inclusive and long-term strategic development plan for the Makran coast in general and the Gwadar Region in particular. 3. Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute at Gwadar

The purpose of this project is to make the people the most important/fundamental stakeholders in Gwadar Port City. Their involvement in the deep-sea port’s operation and management, as well as in industrial and commercial businesses and urbanization processes, is critical to any long-term development projects. This project aims to mold and improve the abilities of Gwadar’s active populace so that they can contribute to the city’s development.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on December 16th, 2019. On September 30, 2021, the project was completed and launched. Now Gwadar has the first Pakistan-China technical-vocational institute. The project was developed for $10 million in the shortest time possible, barely 20 months. The Pak-China Vocational Institute has cutting-edge equipment and apparatus to provide the best technical education and skills to Balochistan’s youth, particularly those in Gwadar. The Pak-China Institute’s students will receive not just free housing but also scholarships. The trained youngsters will have excellent work possibilities in the Gwadar Port, the Free Zone Industry, and other CPEC projects.
