Top 10 Mega Projects In The World 2022
Table of Contents
1. The Great Man Made River Mega Project , Libya
Top 10 Mega Projects in Progress in the World: Since 1985, the Great Man Made River (GMR) is an ongoing work. It is still considered the world’s largest irrigation project and will supply more than 350,000 acres of farmland when completed. It will not only help Libyan farmers get their crops, but will also improve access to clean drinking water in most cities in Libya.
GMR’s water supply comes from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System, known as the world’s largest fossil water system. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2030.
2. Chuo Shinkansen High Speed Railway Project, Japan
Japan’s Linear Chuo Shinkansen, officially called the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, can carry 286 kilometers of passengers in about 40 minutes from Tokyo to Nagoya. Trains on this line travel at approximately 313 mph and are based on the country’s world-leading superconducting magnetic levitation (magnetic levitation) system. The
new line runs underground for about 86% of its length. This requires the construction of a large tunnel. Before construction on extending the line to Osaka proceeds, the project is expected to be completed by 2027.
3. Jubail II, Saudi Arabia
Jubail II, an industrial city planned in Saudi Arabia, has been built for nearly 22 years. It started the second phase in 2014 at a cost of US $ 11 billion and is called the world’s largest civil engineering project. Jubail II has 100 industrial plants, miles of railroads, highways, roads, 800,000 cubic meters of seawater desalination plant (one of the largest in the world), and oil refining capable of producing 350,000 barrels per day, completed in 2024. There is a place. During this construction season, 20,000 construction workers will always be employed on site.
4. Dubailand, Dubai, UAE
Dubailand, a $ 64 billion entertainment complex of scale and scope never seen before in the world, is another megaproject on our list that Dubai calls home. The 110-square-mile complex, which includes theme parks, sports stadiums, healthcare facilities, scientific attractions, ecotourism and hotels, can comfortably accommodate three Walt Disney Worlds. The completed project will include the world’s largest hotel with 6,500 rooms and a 10 million square meter shopping mall. The construction megaproject, first announced in 2003, faced many challenges in the process, including a global recession in 2008 that stagnated development for next five years. Dubailand is planned to open in 2025.
5. Expansion Project of International Space Station, Space
The International Space Station (ISS) will go through numerous refurbishments that value a dazzling US $ 60 billion.
According to a few sources, the presently endorsed enlargement plan (now no longer but completed) could general over $ 1 trillion. As the enlargement continues, the ISS can accommodate up to at least one million people.
6. South-North Water Transfer Project, China
The International Space Station (ISS) is undergoing several refurbishments that cost as much as $ 60 billion.
According to some sources, the currently recommended expansion plan (in progress)
could total over $ 1 trillion. If you’ve seen China’s population distribution and water resources (for unknown reasons), you’ll find that it’s slightly imbalanced. Almost half of the country’s population lives in the north, but only 20% of the country’s water resources are in the north. That is a big discrepancy.
To address this issue, the Chinese government has allocated funds to build three huge canals. Each canal is about 600 miles long and carries water from three major rivers in China,
, to
in northern China. According to Chinese sources, the project has been going on for over 50 years, supplying 44.6 billion cubic meters of water each year and servicing up to 1 million people.
7. International Airport Al Maktoum , Dubai
Dubai’s Al Maktoum Airport will handle 200 wide-body aircraft at a time and will only grow on the second expansion of the airport. This is expected to cost a staggering $ 32 billion, and neither set has a completion date.
8. Cross Rail Project, London
The London Underground network continues to grow rapidly. The crew is now nearing the end of
nearly 13 years of efforts to add a 26mile tunnel connecting 40 stations to the existing network via the “Elizabeth Line.” The bill is estimated at about $ 23 billion. The Elizabeth line is currently available and was already in a complex final stage at a time of significant uncertainty due to the risk and potential consequences of further outbreaks of COVID 19. Project supporters hope to open the line to passengers “as soon as possible”, perhaps in the first half of 2022.
9. High-speed Railway Project, United States
The California High-Speed Rail project started in 2015 and is expected to be completed in 2029, but COVID 19 can cause delays. The Shinkansen runs from San Diego in the south to San Francisco in the north, connecting eight of the state’s ten largest cities. The project is divided into two phases. Phase 1 connects Los Angeles to San Francisco, and Phase 2 connects San Diego and Sacramento. The highway line demonstrates the sustainability efforts of West Coast countries. This is because each 200-mile train is entirely electric and powered by renewable energy.
10. Beijing Airport Project, China
China’s development projects are expanding in scope as they seek to claim their authority in all areas of life in the world. Beijing International Airport will eventually outperform Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport above in terms of cost, total mileage, passenger and aircraft capacity. The first phase of the project will be completed in time for the 2008 Olympic Games, and the construction team will complete the second phase by 2025.
